Re: auto pilots
The old Wood Freemans get a lot of flack these days. But . . . My old running partner from the early 60's and I still use the Wood Freeman Model 11 . We've run and trolled with WFs for over 75 years (combined) from San Pedro to Yakutat. We have Michael Freeman's phone number (founder's grandson), no...

Re: Books & Resources
If books about trollers and their lifestyle appeal to you, you’ll be fascinated with a recent title, In Poseidon’s Pocket , a memoir of a fishwife’s harrowing, true story of five years aboard a forty-footer. Just google Rocky Sherwood and up comes her website complete with sample chapter and how to ...

Re: Well? How was it?
I see. Case......... Sitka's awful quiet. Maybe I'll have to wait for CFEC/ADF&G to post their quartiles. Albacore is ongoing. October can shape a whole season, weather permitting. But so far its between spotty and average with lousy weather from 40-100 miles offshore. Lucrative prices. $2000/to...

Re: 2010 Seafood Case
In the olden days the apple producers got together and came up with “an apple a day keeps the doctor away”.The onion producers became furious knowing that an onion a day was the better way. But, the onioners weren’t willing to challenge those apple folks with their superb marketing record.. So now p...

Hey Salty,
What's that got to do with Seafood Case 2010? You should maybe start a gouging thread?

Re: 2010 Seafood Case
Thanks Google. The CR/PWS Marketing Association is a well organized non-profit partnering with ADF&G and DOES use a publicist. But the outrageous price in the post above is far from the norm. You can buy fresh Copper River sockeye in Dallas for $8.99 per pound. http://escapehatchdallas.com/2010/...

Re: 2010 Seafood Case
Here’s a thought. My daughter Colleen Shannon is a well known DJ. She’s had gigs in 45 countries. A few years ago she hired a publicist for $20K. Suddenly she was on TV shows, garnished articles in the London Times, New York Times, and had offers of gigs to clubs like never before. While it was a bl...

Re: Has anyone seen this before
Good point Carojae. It might be salt crystallization caused by seepage around the lock nut. But it looks like Joe used plenty of Dolphinite. So I wouldn't bet on it. You might try sprinkling Arm & Hammer baking soda on it with your fingers. If it fizzes, it's a deposit caused by minuscule electr...

Re: Has anyone seen this before
I've seen this before. There's a ton of conflicting information on bonding out there. I won't argue with any of it. But, your problem is stray current from either inside the boat or in the harbor. Either way, It's a clear example of why not to bond your keel cooler. Isolate it by removing that SS cl...

J Swan was sort of Canada's Kolstrand. They made gurdies and many kinds of hydraulic winches. Their anchor winches look super.

Re: Unusual fish in Alaska
Wait a sec, Yak There's sunfish roaming with albacore . . . and there's pomfret, that lurk deeper in the same semi-tropical thermal surface layer shared with albacore. That anomaly off Yakutat of 60+ degree water clear into the beach in August of 2004 is the hottest on record. If I was a salmon then...

Re: Unusual fish in Alaska
It's unusual, but a couple times my late friend John Kristovich came in to Pelican on the Cape Falcon after going through jumpers off Noyes in the 70's. Albacore. We used to fish alongside him as far south as the Mexican border. What we used to call The Japanese Current comes across as their migrato...

Do you have a link? I couldn't find it on google. There is already a federal law that requires a crew contract that spells out how the compensation will be figured at a minimum.

Re: Looking for opinions??? And helpful input.
For 10 years I trolled Alaska on my 60-footer using both 471 GM's. I have to say that other boats who came close drew my fish away. But with that size troller I couldn't maintain steerage w/o both engines. Without a doubt my scores diminished trolling on one engine, alone or not. Didn't take me long...

Poker? I'll see your horses and cattle, grain futures, robots and lake history, Corps and programming backgrounds, health issues and ego. And raise that with decades of memories to make you laugh and cry like a baby. Oh yeah, plus a hundred and fifty thousand cash. You'll need it for a turnkey boat ...
