Re: Preseason crew member expectations

2 weeks being a long time? With a 1st year deck hand, I don't think so. It takes that long to get familiar with a new boat, where are the tools- filters- hydro fittings, engine room and all the shut off valves. This is a long list right down the phrases used to to identify everything. Painting and g...

Re: Wooden poles

Wooden poles will rot fastest at the clamp collars for your rigging. If the ends are bad then they are most likely rotten else where. In Southeast AK, I find a old logging clear cut with thick regrowth and harvest my own when the sap is down in the winter or before spring time budding. The cracks (c...

Re: monterrey clipper conversion

I always slush if given the choice and am delivering with in 3 days. As long as the slush is thick enough to prevent de-scaling in rolling seas, I think it's a better product. Icing in to brailers makes for a faster job unloading, clean up/ sanitizing and re-icing is easier, which the guys in line b...

Re: More than one boat same permit

yes you can charter your comm fish troller. All the regs. apply to each fisheries; ie the charter vessel has to be registered and have the sticker as well as the comm. has the HT, both will have the same ADF&G #. All troll fish off loaded prior to chartering. Clients have to be sport or deckhand...

Re: More than one boat same permit

Agreed akfish1; you can't HT a power permit or visa versa. but you can switch boats with 1 permit provided the boats are registered for the type of permit and you correct the ADF&G vessel number on the fish ticket.

Re: More than one boat same permit

2 boats + 2 permits + 2 boat registrations, sure why not, LOL? The legal question would be packing your HT caught fish on the PT boat and mixing the fish. It might be ok if you get a tender's permit or a catcher/processor's(seller's) permit. There may even be a transporting permit. http://www.adfg.a...

fastest breakfast for me is instant oatmeal in the packet. Rip the top off, pour hot water in the packet and warm your hands while eating, lick the spoon twice and your done. if it's too hot to hold ...don't take your gloves off.

Re: AMSEA Ergonomics class in Petersburg

Funny you mentioned the throat latch cut. When I was both gillnetting and trolling I used cut it all when we were required to clean the early spring GN fish. The idea was to mark them as GN caught as apposed to the premiem quality troll caught. That was also back when GNers were getting a lower pric...

I use the chain at the tip with the spring at where the solid for stay is attached. I haven't had to drop a pole at the dock in years to replace a stretched spring. At the tip is where I put the 2nd strongest breaking strap at. see; http://www.salmontrolling.com/viewtopic.php?f=10&t=2577 I might...

Re: Rigging a 25ft boat questions

Weight on your poles has a direct correlation to what and where your haul-backs,to the mast, pole supports and stays are. What I'm saying is you'll want your trolling lines supported by stay lines or ridged forstay rather than the pole it's self. The stabbies should not be on the pole between suppor...

I had an actuator go out in a remote anchorage. It was all electric and didn't incorporate a 2 part hydrolic system. Ridge board 1.5 " or spray foam, I've seen both. I think the boards are glued w/ contractors "liquid nails" But as I think of it I believe the glue melts the board a little bit??? (or test silicon) best check this out 1st. could be banded to the outsides but I'm not sure that banding ...
