Re: Spectra alternative to trolling wire
How do you mark your line without compromising its strength, and how to you address the abrasion of snaps? How do you address the impact of using a non-conductive line on our electrical fields that we work hard to set up and maintain?

Re: Preseason crew member expectations
I think friends and family can work really well - but only if the skipper does their job and manages both expectations and performance. Uncle Karl sleeping in the pit? It had better have been made clear prior to loosing your dock lines that although he's the uncle on shore, on the boat you're the sk...

Re: 3208 CAT?
For that kind of money, I'd go with a non-turbo 3208 all day long. You'd be lucky to get a decent running takeout John Deere with gear for that money, and then you have all of the costs and time that would go along with switching everything over.

Re: Best bailer bag set up for a deep fish hold
I have almost the same setup you have for slush tank dimensions. Assuming the task is 80 long, 42wide and 48 deep, you could run two brailers, each one 40x41x48"deep. Makes for a nice clean pick at the offload. I've had one delivery with some scale loss, but have found two things that prevent i...

Re: pvc pipe and gurdies
I would say that if you used PVC pipe as part of the supply-side plumbing, it will indeed hurt. Especially when a shard of Schedule 40 hits you at high velocity.

Re: gurdie rebuild
I beleive Brad down at InMac / Kolstrand in Ballard will rebuild just about any brand on a parts+ hourly labor basis. Might be worth a call at least. Not cheap though.

http://www.kolstrand.com/inmac-kolstrand-finger-adjustment-screw-with-nut-for-brass-gurdys.html If this is the one you're looking for, you're going to need to pony up and pay what they're asking... not going to find these at Tacoma Screw or any other fastener house. As an aside, these are made with...

Rebuilding hold
Wintertime project creep has set in big time... leading me to ask how you all suggest I finish off my hold interior with? I found some wet insulation while I was doing an ergonomics improvement project, leading to a hold reconfigure, leading to me having a hold with bare owens corning foam board wal...

Re: 26ft troller help
That's the combo I run. Got all the gear separation I needed 99% of the time. My beam is 11 ft, and my deep tag lines are 7 feet (horizontally) out from the gunnel, giving me a total separation of 25 feet between the deeps. That worked well with my 50#'s down to 50 fathoms. I also like having the fl...

Re: 26ft troller help
Looks real good. Since your poles are a little on the short side, my guess is you will probably need to run the float bags to get separation on your gear to avoid tangles. You might be able to get away with running really heavy leads on your deeps and really light leads on your shear lines, but you'...

Re: 26ft troller help
Float boards (or float bags, just a different name) run on the surface straight back from your tag lines. I run them outside of the deeps on my boat. They clip onto your wire at the desired depth after you've clipped on all of your leaders. Run the bags out to a desired distance behind three boat th...

Re: Opinions On SAW Trolling Wire
I've only fished this one year, so take my my comments with that in mind - I respooled with their 7 strand 1/16, 2fa wire before the season. Very easy company to do business with. I abused this wire all year and only have good things to say. The only time a brass mark slipped was when I ran the snap...

Touche... As a first-year guy with likely the lowest king score for 2014 of any member on this board, I consider my initial ATA membership fees a strain as it is - but will proudly write that check. Next year, perhaps I have fewer mechanical issues and land on the fishing grounds in time to fish the...

I think having expendable income for raffle tickets, no matter how justified, would be a highliner topic.

You know you're a lowliner when Joel doesn't even try to make you buy raffle tickets at the ATA meeting at Pacific Marine Expo.
