Re: Cold Plate Refrigeration

This comes under the “if it ainin’t broke, don’t fix it category” It is an old Tec system and most likely has very expensive refrigerant in it. Look on the top of the expansion valve and it may indicate what refrigerant is in the system. White=R 12, green= R 22 purple=502 another way if you have a p...

That water pump looks like a TAMD 41 series or maybe AQAD 41 series with an outdrive?

Re: Engine driven RSW systems

I should have explained further. If this condenser were to be used for air conditioning it would be rate @ 48,000 BTU's.
It is much larger than a power steering cooler.

Re: Engine driven RSW systems

One of the problems I encountered when I built my original RSW system was the condenser. There was not a desirable one made for boats running off the main engine. As a result of this I designed a full flow one using all the engine cooling water without creating a restriction for the main engine. Pro...

Re: Engine driven RSW systems

The beauty of this system is this: I would leave the slip with the fish hold completely EMPTLY. I DID NOTHING TILL I CAUGHT MY FIRST FISH. Then I would turn on the switch for the compressor and fill enough water to cover the two bottom pipes. We added fish and water in a amount to just cover the fis...

Re: Engine driven RSW systems

Crawfish in right on with his comments... The design of the fish storage box is a very important part of any RSW system. A deep box and a center divider provide the best product.

You know you’re a low liner when not one sea lion out of a pack refuses to fallow your boat! Or your buddy floats you a big black bag full of gear with a gear diagram and a note saying “Do not deviate!

I have received a number of complaints that I write too much about fishing? All of course coming from the female species! They still don’t get it, a man is born to fish and they cannot change that, try as they will. Having made that point, I have decided to enter some text about a fish’s point of vi...

Re: Engine driven RSW systems

RSW condenser—there are three different ways of doing this 1-Keel cooler a through hull to direct contact under the boat. 2-tube in tube water condenser requires a pump. 3- Shell and tube in line with main raw engine cooling water. Of the three I prefer the shell and tube with full water flow requir...

Re: Engine driven RSW systems

On a Salmon Troller the size of the system only needs to be on the order of a/c unit from a large car it uses the very same compressor. That being the case it will consume around 2 to 4 HP from the main engine @ 1,000 RPM. It will stay up with a 100 fish day (kings). Do you know many high liners tha...

Re: Engine driven RSW systems

Drew,no this system replaces ice all together. It starts with clean sea water and refrigerates it down to 29 degrees by building an Ice bank on the coils. After bleeding, gut and giiled the fish is dropped into the cold sea water for storage till off loading. Fish handled this way are very pristine a...
