Re: Stronger than steel but floats

Good longevity on that line! What about the heavies? Still using wire or the synthetic?

Re: Engine driven RSW systems

I used to like mine, except the maint. . Usually had to replace compressor every year and fill with refrigerant. Kept the fish at perfect temp tho. The down side is you still need ice if you shut down at night on trips. Good to have some ice every trip to throw first few fish in, too.

Splashzone could be used, probably. Hardens underwater

Re: Stronger than steel but floats

Hey that is interesting! I don't want you to divulge secrets but wondering about you pound test. I figure the wire was like 700 pound. I have used 300 lb spectra type for black cod sets with good sized weights. I'm thinking tho the test has to be higher like 600 or so. Also what did you come up with...

Stronger than steel but floats

I'm wondering if people have used. the new , stronger than steel lines like spectra or spider wire type on their gurdies instead of stainless wire. I'm thinking the small diameter could allow for deeper fishing with less lead.

Re: Leader Material

I use mostly 80 on hootchie and 100 on flasher for lions. But my first year I used 50. Most of my memory of that year tho was a blur of auto pilot troubles and tangles.

Re: Leader Material

I once tried, during a good king bite ....for weeks on end some chartreuse.
Or high visibility leader. On one or two spreads. I don't remember why I did that but I do remember I caught no legalfish on it. The rest of the time yams or jinkai.

Re: Preseason crew member expectations

It can indeed be difficult. There are so many little ins and outs with trolling . I don't want to constantly be barking do this or that. It can make for a strained trip. But loosing a 50lb lead can make make a strained trip as well. Pick your battles maybe. Or go alone?

Re: Sea Anchors

I have used them a lot. They are amazing in that the boat can move up wind if the current and wind are opposite. You are stuck like at anchor but not as much jerking. Thesurpluss ones work great. But are more difficult to retrieve due to fullness in shape trapping water. Bonafide ones are expensive....

crocs and plugs?

Was wondering if anyone favors crocadille spoon or plastic plugs? One of my 1st boats had about fifteen pounds of each but I ran them a few times with no bites or maybe one bite on a plug but that was all. Someone said they must be run a lot faster. Also I don't see the plugs for sale much and am wo...
