Re: Help intalling Vickers 42 VTMGurdy Pump

I am picture challenged but would be glad to send you pictures with cell phone. The installation will not happen till next year (I am rod and reeling the boat this season) but am assembling the parts. I am still in the middle of exchanging my original order.

Re: Help intalling Vickers 42 VTMGurdy Pump

For those interested I believe I found a method. I am dealing with an out of state raw water pump rebuilder (so he has various pulleys, parts, etc....). The existing raw water pump with the serpentine belt (powered by crankshaft) is getting swapped out for a pump with a double v belt using a serpent...

Help intalling Vickers 42 VTMGurdy Pump

I am finding myself having to think "outside the box". I have a 23' Penn Yan Salmon permitted boat that was fished as rod and reel. I am wanting to install a hydraulic system. Unfortunately, I am running into mounting issues for the Vickers 42 VTM assembly. My motor is a gas 2001 Volvo Pen...

Re: Trolling wire voltage testing.

I may very well be keeping my boat as a rod and reel craft the first year with the possibility of a single gurdy on starboard and port sides. As I do the installs I want to keep this electrical theoretical stuff present so I am not repeating myself. I am not swimming in funds or time and enjoy doing...

Re: Trolling wire voltage testing.

I had to sit down and take notes for all what was said in this discussion. I hope I understand the concepts for practical application. 1. The principles are those of a "Cathodic Protection System" where the anodes (zincs, etc...) are the sacrificial pieces submerged in the same electrolyte...

Re: New Member

Scott,
Thanks for the reply. You envision a flat ocean, fish a biting, no tangles, etc.... I am well aware of the work ahead. I have always looked humbly at learning and know there is a learning curve in front of me. My best.

Re: Trolling wire voltage testing.

For what it is worth.......when plumbing dissimilar metals a dielectric union is recommended. I have found that the current jumps from copper to galvanized despite the thickness of the plastic washer in the union. A 6" brass nipple or 6" of brass valve with nipple will prevent the electrol...

Re: Trolling wire voltage testing.

So it looks like grounding to dedicated zincs vs. battery negative. Similar to the metal jackets for instrument wire.

Re: Trolling wire voltage testing.

I am out of my element for contributing but I am installing davits on my boat. Does the davit material play a role in the wire current? I know type III anodizing leaves the aluminum non conductive (maybe type II and other but I never had that done so never inquired). Would a non conductive davit hav...

I am a new member and introducing myself. I recently purchased a 23' 1977 Penn Yan fiberglass inboard with tunnel drive. I am going to fish out of Bodega. Back in the late 70's early 80's I probably saw it going out to fish from Sausalito when I sold and split firewood from Schoonmakers (when there ...

I am a new member but so you get a look at who I am.....100% in agreement with Lulu and would add "....don't ask questions until the end of the day when the lines are up. Most get answered as the day goes on....".
