Been a minute since I checked in here…
I’m getting 2-3 seasons on it. I use wire on my heavies but i like the spectra on my bags because it doesn’t kink. When you turn it will twist up like wire, but it straightens right out with no damage. Overall I think it works pretty well.

Float Bags
Where is the best place to buy a new set of float bags/pigs/boards? Looking for a set for 35# leads.

Re: Stronger than steel but floats
I made some spectra wires and have been using them on my floats w/ 35# balls for 3 years now (same lines) and have had very good success with them. If I could figure out a cost-effective way to mass-produce them I would market them.

Re: Best Davits for Hand Trolling?
The higher davits will make for better ergonomics and give you more time to snap and unsnap spreads.

Best source for Coyote spoons?
Can anyone please share a good source for Coyote spoons in commercial troller quantities? I find them online but only in limited quantities.
Also, what's your favorite spoon for CA spring kings?
Thanks,
Paul

Re: Spectra alternative to trolling wire
Garibaldi, Thanks for your interest. The spectra products I'm developing could certainly work for you, however they are geared more towards using the 30#-60# leads, so the diameter might be more than you need. Are you running spreads directly off your downrigger wire or are you using releases with r...

Re: Spectra alternative to trolling wire
Lulu, Thanks for your reply and your input. I am working on incorporating a thin conductor strand, SS or maybe copper, into the construction to address the non-conductivity issue. As for holding up to a crab pot, I believe it will hold up as well as or better than steel, as it has a higher breaking ...

Re: Spectra alternative to trolling wire
Jackson, thanks for your interest. Where are you located? Which wire diameter and length do you like to use? One benefit of spectra over wire is lack of memory. This means no "slinky" effect if you end up with a big tangle on deck. It also means if you want to up-end your wire each season,...

Re: Spectra alternative to trolling wire
Curmudgeon, there are several splicing tools on the market, but I prefer the Ronstan F15 splicing needle. I have had good success using a simple "Chinese finger cuff" splice, but this kind of splice can also be served, split and re-tucked, etc. It also has very high knot strength in a pinc...

Re: Spectra alternative to trolling wire
Hans2, Those are great questions. The proprietary marking is what makes the product, and will maintain its full strength. In addition to its natural abrasion resistance, the spectra wire is coated at the filament level. The final product may be coated post-production as well, depending on testing re...

Spectra alternative to trolling wire
Hi all, I am developing and testing a braided spectra alternative to the industry-standard stainless trolling wire. I have succesfully adapted braided line to other commercial fishing applications, and I'm just trying to gauge interest in trying a new product. I am starting with the common diameters...

Yes, Salty please share more pics if you don't mind! I can only fish kings where I live, so I wouldn't need the cartridge setup but the setter would be very helpful. Thank you.

Tagline Breakaway Strength
Hello all, I'm a longtime commercial fisherman (albacore troller, seabass, halibut) and I just bought a CA salmon permit and am setting up my boat for the start of the season. I have a question and have scoured the boards for the answer with no luck... What should the breaking strength of my tagline...

Spread Box Design?
I'm a new member to this board, and I'm looking to build some new boxes for my spreads. Would anyone mind sharing pics of theirs? Any advice on do's and don'ts will be much appreciated.
