Doing bottom work the old fashion way in Hoonah

Well it's been quite a first week for me on the F/V Myrth. I was attempting to put the boat on the grid a couple days ago and my turn was a little wide and I stuck her right on the mud flat 100 ft from grid!!! Thank God for a seasoned mariner with me but was on deck when pulled this stunt !! Long st...

Comnav 1001

I have a comnav 1001 on the boat I just purchased. Took it out yesterday just for a to be shown a few things about operating the boat. He showed me how to use the auto pilot and it works great. It works great but about EVERY 20 seconds or so there is an audible alarm that beeps. I asked him what tha...

Re: new deck paint

Yes I found some CPES and will pray for a few days of sun in a couple weeks. I talked to the folks at Rotdoctor and they gave me some great info and suggestions on surface prep and application. May spend an extra day in Juneau and rent a Floor Sander if I can get all of the paint stripped off. The s...

new deck paint

If I have time in a couple weeks and the weather permits I would like to repaint the deck on my boat. Any recommendations would be appreciated, I have searched the subject here, but thought maybe there would be a new product or idea out there. It is a wood boat.

Have any of you guys ever tried the Johnson washdown pump? I am having one installed in my boat this week on the recommendation of Brad the guy that ran the boat last year.

Re: Swivel or no swivel on spoon?

If I man does not have access to a TIG welder is there any other way to do it? Or do they make a split ring that is tough enough that a guy can use?

Fish tacos are always great. Buy a small bag of coleslaw mix add some sour cream, salsa or what I love is Adobo sauce mixed in. Great on fish tacos!!!

Re: Favorite Meals and Recipes on the Troller

I bought several packages of those instant potatoes that Are different flavored. They come in a pack that are like 4 servings. Fry a slab of halibut or rock fish lightly dusted with fish breading, open a can of green beans. Really hits the spot after a long day. And I could have it done in the time ...

Re: Swivel or no swivel on spoon?

What size of rings do you use when you're putting the rings on king salmon spoons and when you talk about welding do you use a soldering gun? And what are those rings called like if I'm looking online.

Re: Trolling Poles

When you put the float bag on the wire You line up the space between the stops (marks) on the Trolling Wire with the handle on the Brass rod. When you turn the handle to lock it in place the wire is pinched between the plate on the Handle and the Float. The stops make it impossible for the wire to s...

Re: Favorite Meals and Recipes on the Troller

I make my own Pastrami out of Venison and Goose and it is basically the same process as Corning Beef. The difference is when the meat comes out of the brine you put a Rub on it and smoke it for a couple 3 hours. Next year I will just Corn some and bring it with me, that sounds really good. One of my...
