Re: Chum Fishing

I would prefer that someone who knows better than me would answer you, but the forum is so quiet that it may not happen. So here goes: I know a guy who bought a bunch of purple flashers with crackly mother-of-pearl finish specifically for chums. But another fellow said buy blue flashers, 'cause king...

Re: Chum Fishing

BC: I knew this had been discussed some before. See if this link works: http://www.salmontrolling.com/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=2509&p=13078&hilit=+chum+gear+#p13078 That should take you to a discussion of chum gear. If it doesn't work, try typing "Chum Gear" or "Oregon Twine&qu...

Re: Alaska winter Chinook changes

I think the discussion is important to have. Is there a way to have the discussion without in-fighting? Is the problem that Sitka has become the best place to catch fish? And we can't all operate in Sitka because the grounds and harbors have become crowded? I am too junior in the industry to pitch a...

Re: Financing from abroad

Timm:

Probably not a tough question, once you find the right person to ask. More fishing than computing being done by board denizens right now, I think. Meanwhile, why not just do some searches and find the state website that would help you with that?

OK, Dave. Thanks for checking.

I hope this site never goes down altogether. Think of the wealth of information we would lose. Hopefully Jon archives it all somehow if the day draws near.

OK. Does this one work for you? http://www.salmontrolling.com/download/file.php?id=802 If you want to check others, some posts have pictures already visible in the message. Others have a link to click. Basically, anything with a link to click won't open for me, even though I saw them in the past. I ...

can't recall jpg's?

Jon:

When I try to click on older jpg links in the pictures/movies section, I get a message that "file cannot be delivered". I use Firefox as a browser, but this always use to work. What's up?

Re: Opinions On SAW Trolling Wire

Thanks! I was considering going back to brass anyway, but someone who probably knows better than me said he doesn't like the dissimilar metals on the wire. Don't remember if he was worried about corrosion or putting off fish. However, seems like there shouldn't be much reaction with high quality sta...

Re: zincs vs hull reference

Want to know what I think? I could be wrong, but I don't think you will change that reference number by adding zinc. I think that more zincs will only make them last longer. Similar to putting on a zinc that is twice as big as the one you took off in a spot. It will last longer, but not change the v...

Re: Opinions On SAW Trolling Wire

Was concerned my question would get missed on bottom of page 1, so I will ask it again: Are people using brass marked SAW wire, or the hand marked, which seems to be available but harder to come by?

Lane: If I remember right, SAW company wants to steer us toward machine marked (brass?). They do have an option for hand marked that seems to drive the price up considerably. Which do you use?

Katlian: I like what you're doing, but you're several levels above me and I don't understand your overarching objective. Other than I understand you have done some converting to 12 volts to eliminate the inverter. My next question will indicate just how far below your level I am: My boat came with a...

Summer King Quota already announced!?!

Abundance index for 2016 of 2.06 for a summer troll quota of some 260,000. 2015 AI was 1.45. Somebody thought it was 2.47 back in 2014.

Last year's announcement didn't come until June 26. Will wonders never cease? The world of politics. Wow.

Measurements for Icharge

I got back to my boat and was able to do the voltage measurements that Icharge Al asked for. I have a 2,000mv range on my digital meter, which is equivalent to 2 volts. It read out in hundreds of millivolts, but I will move the decimal point here and give the readings in volts, as that is how most o...

Re: Walking the docks

Right now, commercial trolling is closed. There will be some hatchery openings in sometime in April, with spring openings coming for a few days at a time carrying through May and June. Which leads up the the King opening July 1st, soon followed by the coho season which usually runs through most of J...

Winter Kings closes

Guess what email I got from Fish and Game in my hotel, waiting for my early flight back to Alaska? Winter King closure.

Maybe somebody else should be calling the shots in my life, other than me. I don't seem to be in sync with the cosmic flow.

Re: LED flood instead of Sodium?

Thanks for the clarification, JKD. I run in SE. I usually don't get bothered too much by boats running with sodium lights on. Except one time when I could ill afford it. I got caught out later than I intended, and was running with no forward looking lights. To my dismay, as I was squinting forward, ...

Re: LED flood instead of Sodium?

I don't quite get how the new light is dimmer compared to the array of 3 sodiums on the old crabber (you have to zig zag now); yet you get complaints from the authorities about how bright it is. So did everyone complain about the crabber sodiums as well?
