Re: keel haul

Makes sense. Ever drop a ball fender in the water? They're smooth and slick yet they dig in and create drag. I guess my main concern would be wearing the bottom paint but worth a try.

Re: Nobeltec's January visit to Sitka

Been using nobletec for the last 10-12 years. Don't know if it's because of that and I'm just used to it or what. I've tried other programs but have never found any that I was completely comfortable or happy with. I bought the new nobletec "Odysey" and it was ok but it wasn't as quick on s...

Re: Stabilizers and stability

I've always fished a double ender. Their stability characteristics are pretty much the same, they don't like following seas on the stern quarter. Stabies are great especially in a following sea but you can lose a knot to them. I've found that if the seas aren't too rough you can pull your stabies th...

Re: Pressure Bleeding

One could tag like we had during the shaker program with a zip strip and tag through the mouth and back around the gill flap or a wide pliable zip strip with whatever identification you use around the wrist or whatever thats called foreward the tail fin. Don't see how that would affect flesh quality...

Re: Polishing Spoons

Garrett...there was considerable weeping and wailing and gnashing of teeth at the end of season 2011 which I think played a big part in the population explosion at Neets. Whereas it was one of my best seasons which allowed me to weather my waterloo of 2012. It amazes me how the pendulum swings in th...

Re: Polishing Spoons

Thanks Eric...We must have been composing at the same time...I have to admit I really enjoyed coho fishing if for no other reason it was relatively uncrowded AND somewhat productive AND there were some nice kings off Jacobi. I'm not about to give up on chum just yet though. I'm thinking we'll get th...

"Not to sound contentious because lord knows I've been stirring the pot on here lately but I am wondering why you wouldnt surmise that your poor season was from the lack of quality gear. That immediately, all things equal, seems like the natural face value assumption. And if you did have so muc...

Re: Polishing Spoons

I chased the kings and coho more last year than any in recent memory due to the increase in greed and aggression that has taken over the cluster fox trot known as the chum troll fishery. My old spoons were in pretty bad shape for being neglected but I used em anyway and they produced. Seems the supe...

Re: Gold plating

Thanks guys, really appreciate all the info mydona. I'll have uses for both powder coat and plating. About 30 lbs of coho spoons and 4-5 handsful of old superiors. With all the crap coming out of china these days these old spoons are getting more and more desirable and worth the refurb I would think.

Re: Exposure

Whew my bad, thanks for educating me... But...I still take exception to farmed fish being touted on the co op website in any form or fashion or connecting link.I wasn't aware that I had left the co op site. I think anyone just scanning through could get the same impression.

Re: Exposure

Soooo....If I'm reading this right the Co op is supporting foreign farmed fish operations. How long has this been going on and how does that benefit me as a "WILD" fish provider? As a Co op member in good standing it appears I'm supporting the very industry that, as I've been led to believ...

Re: Let's Build Some Boats!

I've been considering a variable pitch prop. I think it would be great for the chum fishery. You could feather it down to the right speed while maintaining a healthy rpm for your engine and charging system and alleviate one from having to drag drogues. My main concern would be how it would hold up t...
