Re: chinook bycatch letters to NPFMC
Thanks for the link. Hard to believe that it's legal, particularly in AK. It's interesting that the boat with the 875 chinook by-catch was second to last in number of observations. A good troll season, indeed!

Salmon Hype
The link is to an interview with the creator of all the Copper River salmon hype from the Seattle Times. “Originally it was just an illusion of a race, but all the (reporters) got the excitement going,” Rowley says. “And there was so much excitement about that first fish of the season, that one year...

Re: Good Grief.
I've been trying to find justification for it and read about his credentials. Their site says he retired from the CG in 2011, giving him the last couple of years in the private sector to work on a tuna project with the UN. It does seem strange in our economy that he would be the top choice. Hopefull...

Re: value chain of your fish
My wife had me swing by the store for milk, biscuits and cookies tonight. Who would of thought walking to the milk aisle could be so painful. The attached shows the a single store's promotion of netted, sometimes bled salmon. This is occurring in stores throughout the U.S. This is an example of a gr...

Re: value chain of your fish
They have done a nice job. The processing facility in Sitka is spotless. It seems to be an extremely well run operation. I am convinced you can't purchase a fish product that's been handled better than fish from SPC. It is the best. After purchasing from them, I believe their sales operation to be e...

Re: value chain of your fish
Thanks Tom. It's great to see the breakdown. That reminded me that two weeks ago I heard the first local radio add mentioning Copper River salmon. It was a Casino trying to get folks to come eat and gamble. Five times in the add they mentioned Copper River salmon, how seasonal it was and how you had...

Nice looking logo. Someone spent some time on that. I agree with the "From the Small Boat Fleet." for all the same reasons.

Salty & Abundance, I've been away for a while. You've been posting some great tips and links. The tip on unsnapping before landing a fish is appreciated. I remember the old men talking when I was a kid about a fellow who was taken to depth by a free-spooling gurdie, a large cannon ball & a h...

Re: This Fish
Trnaround, That's pretty slick. It took me a minute to find the sample code button (above the dialog box). It would be interesting to interview participants and find out if it has provided much financial benefit since its introduction. From a marketing perspective it looks like an incredible tool. T...

Re: Attempting to salvage promotion discussion
I thought about it on the way home and decided I should post the link to the fight after thinking about the analogy. The guy in the middle represents the average troller trying to influence the price of his or her fish. The guys on either side perhaps represent the system we feed, the processors, re...

Re: Attempting to salvage promotion discussion
Trnaround, That's a great idea. I can't tell you how much time my kids & friends spend watching youtube! Side note: Having brothers, I think my favorite video is the Icelandic Wooden Spoon Fight. Don't judge me :D . If a few folks took video using Gopro's throughout the season so there was a lot...

Thanks for the efforts on the logo - it's looking good & thanks Abundance & JYPDX for your thoughts. Good points. Salty, thanks for all the time you dedicate working to put real, available dollars in troller's pockets. There's probably not much better use of time & effort for the benefit...

Same here. I meant to say so earlier. A similar storm took several small boats out of Port Angeles several years ago. They said it was a nice day and it came up in about 20 minutes. Glad you're still with us.

Re: Pressure Bleeding
Trnaround thanks & JYPDX, good points. There's some brutal honesty. You are penalized for delivering ultra-high quality fish in the form of lost pounds in a hot bite. The public doesn't demand ultra-high quality and the trickle-down effect means that the processors don't place enough value on it...
