Herring vs Spoons?

Post by akfisher78 »

Curious if it is common to run a mix of Herring and Spoons at the same time or maybe some two lines with Spoons and two with Bait? Another question but really a different topic is someone told me that I had to remove all wire from one of my 3 spool gurdies because it was illegal to have it spooled, he even said to fill it with cement?

Herring and spoons work well together. I sometimes mix them on adjacent leaders like this:

Lead spoon, flasher and herring, long spoon leader, flasher and herring, short spoon leader, flasher and herring, etc.

On the other hand I often run strait herring, for winter kings, or strait spoons, for summer coho.

Three spool gurdies are fine in Alaska. You are allowed to use 6 lines west of spencer outside of 3 miles. Wire is fine on them. You are not allowed to have four spool gurdies per side with four spools per side in operable condition.

Good luck.
