Boat Insurance Question

Post by Kelper »

Question for the forum:

For those of you who own boats that you paid cash for that aren't worth a bunch of money, do you insure them? What reasons exist that call for insurance besides getting money if your vessel sinks?

Thanks!

Probably just the Pollution insurance! If the boat sinks and is full of fuel I assume the coast guard could bankrupt you if they wanted!

That's what I was worried about. I guess I need to get on the phone with an insurance agent. Anybody have any recommendations for a F/G boat?

There are a ton out there I used Wrangell/Petersburg Insurance for my glass boat but they could not help with my wood hull. I now use Anchor Marine out of Seattle!

Kelper, you may also want to talk to Chuck Pappas with North Star Insurance in Seattle. 800-605-4655. Akfisher is right, get the polution protection and if you bring on a crewman purchase the P&I for the season, you will sleep better at night.
