Salmon Trolling in Oregon??

Post by taloucci »

Hi There,

Anybody from Oregon? Is it worth salmon trolling there? or is better to move to Washington?
Thank you in advance.

Just a thought.. you could have a California and Oregon permit for the same price as Washington; maybe get the Wa and for an extra $5k get the Or and extend your season geographically and timewise.

Lots of guys do it. OR has daily quotas as well as season quotas, for both Coho and chinook. Though I believe coho must be fin clipped. Both species take are regulated by area as well. Right now (July) southern OR take is limited to 15 fish I believe. If you have to go far to fish, or if you troll for a while it could really eat into the profits.

Southern Oregon is wide open for kings until the weekly quota of 65 fish kicks in for September and October. no coho retention below cape falcon. Above cape falcon has Wa quotas

I should add that when I talk of "southern Oregon" I mean Humbug to Falcon. Brookings is heavily restricted
