Highseas driftnets

Post by yak2you2 »

Think they're not still in business? Think again! I found this washed up on the beach today. Obviously it has been there for a little while, but the corks weren't faded from the sun anymore on top than the bottom, so I imagine it washed up sometime this summer.

While high seas drift nets are undoubtedly still intercepting some Alaska salmon I believe it is nowhere near the problem it was in the 80's and early 90's before we organized SeaCops and helped get the high seas gillnets off the salmon.
Nevertheless it pays to be constantly vigilant and keep posting these type of pictures. Thanks Case.
