New GE Legislation Filed Today in Congress

Post by ata »

Hi All:

Rep. Don Young and Senator Mark Begich both introduced new GE legislation today, which ATA strongly supports. I haven't seen the co-sponsor list yet, but suspect Sen. Murkowski is right there with Begich.

If you appreciate their efforts, you might search them out on Facebook and tell them thanks. If you are a fisherman, or a friend of our industry who relies on healthy, sustainable fish, tell them that, too. They'll like hearing from you.

Hopefully your cards and letters of support for the bills will follow. Don, Mark, and Lisa have been warriors on this issue - let's help them out!

And don't forget to comment on FDA's GE salmon proposal - details can be found on other salmontrolling.com and postings. DEADLINE: Feb 25th.

Let's get to work...

Hi All:

HJR 5 - resolution opposing FDA approval of GE salmon, by Rep. Tarr, co-sponsored by Rep. Kreiss-Tompkins and others.
http://www.legis.state.ak.us/basis/get_ ... session=28

HJR5 will be heard by the AK Legislature's Fisheries Committee on Tuesday February 12 at 10am
. Committee will also take up an interesting bill on invasive species. This hearing will be teleconferenced, so you can either go to your local LIO or call to ask to dial-in from wherever you are. You will have the option of testifying or just listening. If you are in Juneau, the meeting will be held at the legislature in room 120. The room isn't too big, so get there early. For additional information on contacting the legislature, see the post I did this morning that includes lots of legislative links.

ATA's letter of support can be viewed in one of the posts above. Please submit comments and/or testify at next week's hearing. If you are really tight on time, the legislature even offers the option of submitting a POM (personal opinion message) via email. http://www.legis.state.ak.us/poms/

I'll be at treaty next week, but hope to come home to a message about all the trollers/fishermen/friends who got involved in the GE hearing.=)

Go Team!
