Chinook Mitigation 2014

Post by ata »

Hi All:

By now, eligible trollers should have received applications from the state for the treaty mitigation program. The application covers the summer 2012 Chinook fishery. Applications are due back to the state by Dec. 4, 2013 and payments should arrive in early 2014. This will be the final round of the direct pay program, which is intended to help offset Chinook harvest reductions under the Pacific Salmon Treaty.

Please use the forms provided by the state, because they will have all your tonnage and other important information onboard. In the event your form does not arrive, or is lost, give Jennifer Shriver a call at CFEC and she'll fix you up (907-790-6937).

The state will accept applications in the mail or via email: CEDChinook@alaska.gov. Applications received through the email address will be sent an email confirmation. Remember to keep this confirmation as proof that your application was received.

If you mail your application the old school way, we suggest sending it certified, or some other method that gets you a return receipt for verification purposes.

If you are wondering if your application was received, please do NOT send a second application. Apparently that happened a lot last time and created confusion. Instead, give Jennifer a call at the number above and she'll let you know if you have an application on file.

In early October, ATA negotiators will attend the final mitigation meeting to decide with other Stakeholder's how best to spend the funds that remain. And fall officially ushers in 'The Treaty Season'. roll representatives will continue to call for more reasonable access to the highly abundant king salmon.

Cheers!

Dale
