Free F/V Drill Conductor Workshop in Sitka

Post by AMSEA »

AMSEA will offer a 10-hour Fishing Vessel Drill Conductor workshop in Sitka on October 6. We can offer 100% scholarships for the workshop to commercial fishermen thanks to funding from the Alaska Department of Commerce, Community and Economic Development (DCCED) and from the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH). The cost for the 10-hour workshop is regularly $175.

As you probably know, if you fish on a documented vessel in federal waters USCG regulations require that you conduct monthly emergency drills. Those drills must be conducted by someone certified through a USCG accepted training. This workshop is a great opportunity for commercial fishermen to get this important training and certification at no cost.

Instructors, Jerry Dzugan and Rick Petersen, will cover these topics:

• Cold water survival skills
• EPIRBs, flares, and maydays
• Man overboard recovery
• Fire fighting
• Immersion suits and PFDs
• Emergency drills
• Helicopter rescue
• Life rafts
• Abandon ship procedures

The workshop will be held at the Public Safety Training Academy, 877 Sawmill Creek Rd, from 8:00 AM to 7:00 PM. You'll need to bring a photo ID, a pen, and your immersion suit. If you do not have an immersion suit, AMSEA can provide one. Space is limited, so register online or call AMSEA at (907) 747-3287 and guarantee your spot in the workshop.

These are vital skills for you and your crew. We hope to see you there!
