AMSEA Workshops Scheduled in Sitka

Post by AMSEA »

AMSEA has a couple of Fishing Vessel Drill Conductor Workshops scheduled for Sitka: November 6, 2014 & December 9, 2014.

Now is a great time to get the training you need if you are fishing on a documented vessel in federal waters. If you have already taken a drill conductor workshop, consider a refresher. Survival gear, signals, and recommended procedures all change over time and if it's a few years or a couple of decades since your last class you may want to get current. The best part is that commercial fishermen can take the class at no cost, thanks to scholarships from the U.S. Coast Guard. The cost for others $175 and and all mariners are welcome.

The workshops are ten hours long and instructor, Rick Petersen, will cover these topics:

• Cold water survival skills
• EPIRBs, flares, and maydays
• Man overboard recovery
• Fire fighting
• Immersion suits and PFDs
• Emergency drills
• Helicopter rescue
• Life rafts
• Abandon ship procedures

The course will be conducted at NSRAA, 1308 Sawmill Creek Rd, Sitka, AK 99835. Register online or call (907) 747-3287. We hope to see you there!
