Troll and Charterboat Meeting June 25th

Post by ata »

Hi All:

1. Below is the announcement for the meeting between trollers and charterboat operators that ATA requested after several altercations erupted between trollers and charter operators at Cape Edgecomb last summer. I encourage those of you in Sitka to attend this meeting and increase understanding about sharing the drag and help to calm the waters as we head into the summer season. Thanks to the USCG for facilitating and to local Sitka charter skippers who are working to get their folks to the meeting. Thursday June 25th 7-8p Centennial Hall.

2. ATA will host its annual July troll only port meeting 3pm Friday June 26th at Centennial Hall - all trollers welcome!

Keep Safe!

Attention Commercial Salmon Trollers & Charter Vessel Operators

The Coast Guard's Marine Safety Detachment (MSD) in Sitka will host an open forum meeting for people involved in the commercial salmon troller and charter vessel fisheries on Thursday evening, June 25th at Centennial Hall from 7 to 8 PM.

The purpose of the meeting is to discuss conflicts between the two groups that occurred in the vicinity of Cape Edgecumbe last summer. The goal of the meeting is to identify the causes of past problems in an effort to prevent them from occurring in the future. MSD personnel will facilitate the session and will share information on regulations governing anchoring, lookouts, and general mariner responsibilities to prevent collisions.

Anyone with questions can contact the CWO Mike Wortman, the MSD Supervisor, at 966-5454 or Steve Ramp, the Commercial Fishing Vessel Examiner at 966-5620.
