Before every troller in Southeast Alaska heads out for the July 1 opening, I wanted to mention that AMSEA will conduct a Marine Safety Instructor Training in Sitka September 30 to October 5. This is great opportunity if you have ever thought that you would like to help your fellow mariners learn the skills necessary to survive emergencies at sea.
This is a "train the trainer" course and like all AMSEA workshops, it's hands-on. You'll practice with all the equipment that you'll be training students to use and you'll come away having learned the methods of instruction that make AMSEA workshops effective. To lock in all that new knowledge, participants will have the opportunity to co-teach a Fishing Vessel Drill Conductor workshop with experienced AMSEA instructors on October 6 in Sitka.
Upon completion of the workshop and demonstration of your skills, you will be eligible to teach AMSEA courses and borrow gear and teaching aids for your workshops from the AMSEA gear library. With relevant commercial fishing experience, you can be approved by the U.S. Coast Guard to teach required Fishing Vessel Drill Conductor workshops to commercial fishermen. Yes, trolling counts
The cost for the workshop is $995 and space is limited. If interested, get more information here.
AMSEA's hands-on training is proven to save lives. You can make a difference!
