Strong Dollar vs. Fish Prices

Post by Kelper »

I've haven't been paying attention long enough to see, but what does a strong dollar normally do to our fish prices?

It does look like we'll get some reprieve at the fuel pump, if the lower prices eventually make their way up here.

A strong dollar means a weak yen and euro which makes our products more expensive for them. It makes our exports less competitive, and it makes imports cheaper for us.
Holding other variables constant, a strong dollar will normally mean lower x-vessel prices for our fish.

I agree with Curmudgeon about his market observation, based on the last 20 years that I've been paying attention. However, there are many factors that affect price. The good news: most TROLL caught fish are sold to domestic markets, so...don't buy a net yet...
