lead

I don't have any idea if this would work or not but I had a old timer tell me they run up against the cost of lead in the old days. He took a 6"x 2' piece of rubber hose, found it as a throw away at the local fire department, and bent it in a banana shape. Poured it full of cement and iron and what ever. Stuck a swivel in the top and had himself a lead replacement. I think the banana shape allowed it to pull through the water without twisting to much and when it did hit bottom it didn't hang up. Might be worth a try. Might be able to use a modern day piece of plastic sewer pipe?
