What is the advantage of FAS salmon as far as price goes. Is there certain companies in SE that buy them or can you sell to anyone? Would the same freezers work for salmon and shrimp? Has anyone ever tried selling frozen H&G p-cod in SE? Sorry for all the questions, just trying figure some stuff out.

While the difference between FAS and icing comes down to the price, there are a lot of factors to consider. The first and most obvious is the weight of the head. Beyond that it's basically a different way of fishing. You get fewer turnarounds with FAS, but a lot more investment in freezing equipment and operating costs. Between the higher grading standards and freezer capacity limits, you won't necessarily get the same production per day. Then there are quality of life differences - with a freezer, you've got a genset running all the time. And then there are the panic attacks when the system quits mid-afternoon 120 miles from town and 20,000lbs of fish in the hold. I have to be very careful where I anchor because jellyfish will plug up the intake on my condenser pump. There are only a few places to deliver FAS fish. Packers are not among them. The list goes on....

The price difference between FAS and icing may not show up on the bottom line.
