Reminder: Chinook Mitigation

Post by ata »

Hi All:

REMINDER...

Application Deadline: May 13, 2013

CFEC has sent out applications for Chinook mitigation. If you haven't received one, go to this site and make sure your mailing address is correct. If the address is incorrect, call CFEC right away! http://www.cfec.state.ak.us/plook/

Program Contact at CFEC: Jennifer Shriver, jennifer.shriver@alaska.gov, (907) 790-6937

Program Information: http://www.adfg.alaska.gov/index.cfm?ad ... mpensation

If you were eligible for the 2009 payment, but for some reason didn't receive it, you should get another 2009 application.
The current application combines 2010-2011, and all qualified hand and power trollers should receive this.
There will be NO second chance for 2010-2012, so it's important to get those applications in ASAP!
Applications for the 2012 season will come out next year. This will be the final payment under the program.

Give a call or write me if you have general questions. If you want to ask something specific to your application, call the number above.

Cheers!

Hi All:

The state tells me that application returns have slowed down considerably - only about 50% of all applications have been returned so far. There are plans to do a reminder postcard mail out for the remaining 50% on April 12th.

If you haven't filed your application yet, you might take care of it soon. Deadline is May 13th. There are two years worth of mitigation involved and there will be no second chance for the 2010-11 payment.

If you prefer, you can apply online. There are some downsides, but at least it's an option. Do NOT forget to send your applications certified mail and keep the receipt - some folks last year regretted not doing so.

When you get your check, consider this. This money bought 15% of your summer king salmon quota. This is the final payment of the settlement. If you stand any chance of ever getting the 15% back, there's only one organization out there fighting for that cause, ATA. Are they going to try and take any more fish away from us? Who knows, but I personally wouldn't be surprised. Once again, there's only one organization fighting for you at the treaty, the ATA.
ATA isn't a government funded organization. It's run for trollers, with trollers donated money. So, you get out of something, what you put into it. If you want a strong, healthy organization that can meet the political battles head on, now's the time to put some money down.
Consider putting some of your mitigation money back into the cause of getting your fish back, or consider it an insurance policy towards loosing anymore. Treaty is one of many battles being fought to keep our fishery safe and viable.
Make a donation, become a member, show up to meetings and be heard. Thank you.

Thanks, Casey.

Just to clarify... there will be one more mitigation payment under this program. Next year you will receive an application for the 2012 season. The only reason we did two years this round is because the program changed a bit and we had to go through the full regulatory process. That took more time than expected, so you didn't get an application last year.

Don't forget to get those applications sent in! May 13th is the deadline. If you didn't get one, first look for the other post on this site that lists names of those whose applications were returned to CFEC. And, if you're on the list, or think you should have gotten an application for 2010-2011 seasons, then contact CFEC right away! If you see someone you know on the list, give them a courtesy call.

CFEC: Jennifer Shriver (907)790-6937 or jennifer.shriver@alaska.gov

Hi All:

CLARIFICATION...

CFEC says more applications are coming in, but they are hearing that some folks didn't send in applications because they didn't think they qualified. If you received an application you ARE qualified to receive mitigation money for one or more fishing years between 2009-12. So, be sure and get those applications signed and sealed right away!

Did you already pitch yours? Go online for information and an application:

Deadline to apply: May 13th
