Bleach again

Post by Once and Future »

Things I didn't used to know... Maybe you did, but I didn't realize bleach loses its properties in a few months, at least after the jug has been opened. I was confused this spring as to why my bleach smelled just like water. So I opened a new jug and used it instead. Now I read that bleach will go bad after 6 months - and that explains what happened.

Lucky I have never bought the perfumed variety, just for the specific purpose of being wanting to smell it in water I may treat. Especially my drinking water. I don't want too much in there, and how could you verify how things are going with the perfumed variety? And how would I have known my bleach was dead if there wasn't an appropriate smell to look for?

Which leads me to another topic - treating freshwater for drinking...
