You can see the spreader bar as an additional break safety. In all cases so far the twine has broken.

I have a killer cord bungee hanging from each side of the cockpit cover. When running mains and floats I clip the tag into it as it is right there and they are out of way.
When fishing bow poles I have a hook drilled into the aluminum deck cover right where the tag comes up and just clip from loop and into the hook.

So every time that stop comes up or goes down you have to clip on or clip off the tagline?

Yes, but just takes a second. Then you don't have to deal with fair leads. For me it balances out favorably. And I can fool with my tag length becuse I don't have to have it just right for the fair lead to ride up out of the way.

I see that this thread ended when I actually posted a picture of my system that eliminates fairlead/insulators. Has anybody switched over?

I used your system for Coho last summer - the only real difference being I used a large SS shrimp pot snap instead of the West Marine style snap in your pictures.
