AMSEA F/V Safety Workshops for June in Sitka

Post by AMSEA »

It's not too late for Sitka trollers to get their safety training before the general troll opening. AMSEA has a one-day Fishing Vessel Drill Conductor Workshop scheduled for June 16, 8:00 AM to 7:00 PM. The cost is FREE for commercial fishermen, thanks to funding from the U.S. Coast Guard. The course will be conducted at NSRAA, 1308 Sawmill Creek Rd, Sitka, AK 99835.

On June 17, we have scheduled Mariner's First Aid & CPR, from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, at Harrigan Centennial Hall, 330 Harbor Drive. Get first aid & CPR training tailored to the needs of commercial fishermen and a USCG accepted two-year certification from ASHI. The cost for this workshop is $95.00.

Finally, learn how to prevent injuries, stay in the game longer, and catch more fish at "Strains, Sprains, and Pains: Injury Prevention for Commercial Fishermen" on June 17, 5:00 PM to 6:30 PM at Harrigan Centennial Hall. Free to commercial fishermen, thanks to funding from OSHA. Learn about ways to avoid musculoskeletal problems common in commercial fishing and share ideas on ergonomic changes that fishermen have made on their vessels. Bring a mat if you want to practice some exercises to "tune up" your body before, during and after the season.

You can register online or call AMSEA at (907) 747-3287. Have a safe and productive summer!
